KHUJAND, August 16, 2008, Asia-Plus  – the Chkalovsk-based international charitable public association Jovid has launched the project to support setting up dehqon (peasant) farms in the Sughd province through providing loans to local farmers, the project manager Husein Toshmatov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, Jovid provides assistance only to those farmers who want to start their business but do not have means.

“Some of them once applied to relevant organizations, but because of lack of funds they failed to make any progress,” said Toshmatov, “To date, five persons that have received money from use have launched dehqon farms in the Zafarobod and Mastchoh districts on an area of totaling 5.63 hectares.”

“Applications of several other persons are currently under consideration,” the project manager said, noting that under the project they can help launch 20 dehqon farms.
