DUSHANBE, August 18, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A group of Iranian journalists, numbering 25 persons, arrived in Tajikistan on Saturday August 16 for a three-day visit.

The aim of the trip, sponsored by Iran’s Ministry of Energy in cooperation with Sabir Company, which contractor of Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP), as well as the Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe, is to visit Tajik-Iranian joint economic and construction project.

On Saturday, visiting Iranian journalists held talks with his Tajik colleagues.  In the course of discussion, Iranian journalists were interested in the present state of media in Tajikistan as well as the socioeconomic situation in the country.

According to Ali Reza Araste, Press Attaché, the Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe, Iranian journalists are not well aware of Tajikistan.  “Tajik journalists not only regular cover events related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries but also have solidary views on issues concerning Iran,” Mr. Araste said.

He also noted that practically each citizen of Tajikistan knows or at least has heard about a joint Persian-language television channel to broadcast in Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan.  Meanwhile, some of Iranian journalists attending an August 16 meeting with Tajik colleagues were even not ware of the Persian-language TV channel and began making inquiries about this project.

On Sunday, the Iranian journalists visited the Anzob tunnel and today, they are visiting the site for Iranian-built Sangtuda-2 HPP.
