KULOB, August 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — 242 farming units in the districts of Kulob, Vose, Farkhor and Hamadoni are in no hurry to send the yielded cotton to the ginneries, Asia-Plus has learned from Rajabali Kulabekov, specialist in agriculture with the branch of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) in Kulob.

These cotton-growing farms have received loans for cotton-harvesting campaign from Amonatbonk.

According to Kulabekov, the mentioned farms have not yet concluded specific contracts with cotton-ginning factories, and therefore, there is no reason for them to send cotton to the ginneries.

“Moreover, the cotton-processing prices and terms of accepting cotton are not yet known,” Kulabekov said, adding that cotton-harvesting rates are also not yet known.  “Therefore, we have advised the cotton farmers to be in no hurry to send the yielded cotton to the ginneries.”

Amonatbonk has funded growing cotton on 6,610 hectares in Khatlon’s Kulob region, the agronomist said.
