Youth Theatre receives awards at international theatre festival in Almaty

DUSHANBE, September 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The State Youth Theatre named after Mahmoudjon Vohidov has received two awards in the 2nd International Theatre Festival of Central Asia’s Countries that was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on September 2-6.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the theatre deputy director, Ziyoboy Toshev, said their theatre had shown the performance “Rich Woman” in the festival.  The performance is based on a play by known Azeri writer and playwright Ali Amirli.  “The theatre has received awards in two nominations: the best actors’ ensemble; and the best men’s part,” Toshev said.  

We will recall that performance “Rich Woman” by the State Youth Theatre named after Mahmoudjon Vohidov and “You Are My Only One” by the Qurghon Teppa Theatre named after Ato Muhammadjonov represented Tajikistan in the theatre festival in Almaty.  

Thee dramatic theatres of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in this festival   

The first International Theater Festival of the Central Asian countries took place in Almaty on September 6-13, 2006.  The dramatic theaters of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan participated in it.  The event was organized by Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information with the purpose of expansion and enhancement of interstate cultural and humanitarian cooperation of the Central Asian states.
