KULOB, September 19, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Farmers in Khatlon’s Vose district have yielded the first 10,000 tons of raw cotton by September 18, while the district target for this year has been determined at 23,000 tons of cotton.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Vose district head Allamurod Taghoymurodov said the farmers prefer to process their raw cotton at the local cotton-ginning factory Cotton-Continental, which takes $179 for processing one ton of raw cotton.

According to him, farmers send cotton for processing also to the cotton-ginning factory Pakhtai Kulob as well as three cotton ginneries in the district itself.

“Pakhtai Kulob and the Vose based joint-stock company Samar process raw cotton at the rate of $150 tons per one ton; Samar has even cut the rate by $25.00 on occasion of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan,” said Taghoymurodov, “Those who have failed to conclude contracts with these cotton ginneries in time are forced to send their cotton to Cotton-Continental; however, they have not lost because Cotton-Continental guarantees more qualitative processing of cotton than other cotton-ginning factories.”  Besides, they may also realize the cotton fiber to the cotton ginnery itself at the exchange price, according to him.

In all, Khatlon’s Kulob region has pledged to yield to 79,350 tons of cotton this year
