Tajikistan’s Lukhtak participates in international festival of puppet theaters in Moscow

DUSHANBE, October 3, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s puppet theatre Lukhtak (Puppet) is participating in the 4th International Festival of Puppet Theatres that kicked off in Moscow today.

It is the first time that the Tajik puppet theatre is participating in this festival dedicated to Sergey Obraztsov, the outstanding figure of the Russian and world theatrical art.  The festival runs through October 12.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Zafar Javodov, a chief stage director of Lukhtak, said that a group, comprising six puppeteers and led by the theatre director Kenja Ibrohimov, is participating in the festival.  “They will show performance “Sun, Moon and Cockerel” based on a play by Shamsi Qiyomov,” Javodov said. 

24 puppet theatres, including 14 Russian puppet theatres, are taking part in the festival.  The puppet theatres from Belgium, Israel, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal, France and some other countries are participating in the festival.

“It is our second our guest performance this year,” said Javodov, “At the beginning of this year, Lukhtak attended the international festival of puppet theatres, Arusak, in Iran.”  

Established in 1985, the Tajik puppet theatre Lukhtak, having seven puppeteers, has made tours of Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Mongolia, Czechoslovakia, France, Pakistan, Iran, Russia and other countries.
