DUSHANBE, October 21, 2008, Asia-Plus — On Monday October 20, Herbert Salber, the Director of the OSCE Secretariat”s Conflict Prevention Centre, inaugurated the new premises of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan in Dushanbe.
“We believe that this event signifies the readiness of the Tajik authorities to further expand cooperation with the OSCE in developing democratic institutions and improving human rights and the rule of law,” said Salber.
Abdullo Yuldashev, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who also took part in the ceremony added: “The outcome of the reforms in the OSCE Office in Tajikistan fully complies with the current mandate; however, it also implies substantial expansion of the OSCE”s actual contribution for sustainable development of the country.”
In Decision 852, adopted on 19 June, the OSCE Permanent Council changed the mandate and the name of the OSCE Centre in Dushanbe to the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. The current mandate promotes the implementation of OSCE principles and commitments as well as the co-operation of the Republic of Tajikistan within the OSCE framework, with special emphasis on the regional context, in all OSCE dimensions, including the political-military, the economic and environmental, and the human aspects of security and stability.
