DUSHANBE, October 21, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On October 20, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with Ambassador Peter Wittig, Head of Department for Global Issues and UN Affairs,, Federal Foreign Office (AA) Berlin, according to the Tajik MFA.

In the course of the talks, the two discussed issues related to bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany, participation of Germany in implementation of investment hydropower projects in Tajikistan. 

They also discussed regional cooperation and exchanged views on the present situation in Afghanistan and joint measures to strengthen security in that country, the MFA press service said.     

Ambassador Wittig arrived in Dushanbe to attend the ministerial conference on “Border Management and Drug Control in Central Asia” that opened here today.  

Yesterday, Zarifi also met with Ambassador Norbert Jousten, Head of the European Commission’s Delegation, who presented copy of credentials to Tajik foreign minister.  During the meeting, Zarifi and Jousten discussed a broad range of issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Commission.     

 During his visit to Tajikistan, Ambassador Jousten will also attend the ministerial conference on “Border Management and Drug Control in Central Asia.”
