DUSHANBE, November 28 2008, Asia-Plus — During his stay in Tehran, President Emomali Rahmon also held bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Brigadier General Mostafa Najjar, and Energy Minister Parviz Fattah to discuss expansion of political, military-technical and energy cooperation between the two countries, presidential press service said.

Iran’s news agency IRNA reported that Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Friday stressed all-out expansion of relations between Iran and Tajikistan.  During the meeting, Mottaki and President Emomali Rahmon called for expansion of Iran-Tajikistan-Afghanistan cooperation in transportation and energy sectors as well as in combating drug trafficking,

They highlighted significance of multilateral and regional cooperation and holding a five-way session in Tehran to that end, IRNA said.

Tehran-Dushanbe cooperation in construction of power plants and railway and encouragement of Iranian traders to have more active presence in Tajikistan were among other issues discussed at the meeting.

Presidential press service noted that President Rahmon’s visit to Iran had ended with signing of a joint statement of the state leaders and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Tajik ministry of transport and communications and the Iranian ministry of roads and transportation.

Speaking at a joint press conference, President Emomali Rahmon and his Iranian counterpart, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, highly appraised the visit results.

Both sides agreed to hold a tripartite (Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran) meeting and five-sided session with participation of representatives of Tajikistan, Iran, Afghanistan, China and Kyrgyzstan on construction of railway from Iran to China via Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan as well as on joint development of water-and-energy resources in central Asia, the press service said.

On Friday, President Rahmon also visited Iran’s engineering company Saypa.
