KHUJAND, December 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The Khujand-based limited liability company, Textile-City, is currently negotiating production of uniform for the Russian Navy, the textile-City director general Tohir Boboyev said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, difficult economic conditions have forced them to change the line of business and make shift from sewing civilian attire to sewing military uniform.

Because of recession of demand for cotton shirts produced by the enterprise, Textile-City has lost European markets.  “Earlier, we had exported up to 400,000 shirts to the European countries per year” Boboyev said.

“In January-November, the enterprise produced 6.763 million worth of output, which is only 84 percent of the November 2007 level,” said the director general, “Therefore, we have decided to go over to production of working clothes and military uniform.”

He added that they planned to open their representative office in the Russian city of Vladivostok in the hope of contracts with the Russian Navy.  “We have already sent a trail consignment of sailor”s striped vests to Russia.

Local joint-stock company (JSC) Abreshim (Silk) now assumes the 100% ownership interest in the enterprise after Italy’s Carrera, owner of 57 percent of Textile-City sold out its interest to Abreshim.
