DUSHANBE, December 12, 2008, Asia-Plus — The 28th session of the CIS Council on Aviation and Use of Air Space was held in Baku, Azerbaijan on December 11.
According to the International Aviation Committee (MAK), the meeting discussed issues related to ensuring flight safety, and conducting research on the impact of the global financial crisis. The meeting participants also exchanged views on the principles of cooperation over the period to 2020 and development of civil aviation.
The research and the discussed issues will be submitted for consideration to the CIS governments, according to MAK.
During the meeting, it was noted that MAK is seriously concerned over increasing fuel prices that may lead to global air carriage and aviation industry crisis.
Interstate Aviation Committee (МАК) is an executive body overseeing the use and management of civil aviation in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). MAK was established in 1991, when 12 states of the former Soviet Union signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on Civil Aviation and Use of Airspace.
The Air Accident Investigation Commission of the Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) regularly investigates plane crashes in the CIS states.
