KULOB, December 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — 31-year-old resident of Khatlon’s Vose district Rahmonali Saidov was detained yesterday with 1.4 kilograms of cannabis.

According to the Kulob police directorate deputy chief, Lieutenant-Colonel Abdurahmon Buzmakov, it was the 72nd case of interception of narcotics in the Kulob region of Khatlon since the beginning of the year.  “In all, 705.98 kilograms of narcotics, including 66.7 kilograms of heroin and 102.9 kilograms of raw opium, have been sized in the region this year,” Buzmakov said.

He noted that six Afghan nationals have been detained in the region this year for drug trafficking.  Four of them have been detained by police officers and two others have been detained by border guards.

“This year, dug-trafficking cases have been reported in all the ten districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region,” the Kulob police deputy chief noted.
