DUSHANBE, December 18, 2008, Asia-Plus – The rights of trafficked persons and effective investigation and prosecution of human trafficking cases were the focus of a five-day training OSCE course which ended in Dushanbe yesterday.
Press release issued by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan said that the course, organized by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, the Office of the Special Representative and Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and the OSCE Strategic Police Matters Unit, had brought together senior police officers, prosecutors and judges from Tajik law enforcement agencies who are responsible for investigation of human trafficking crimes.
“We believe that this training provided a good opportunity for the exchange of experiences and sharing of best practices and mechanisms to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings,” said Ambassador Vladimir Pryakhin, the Head of the OSCE Office.
He added that the perpetrators of this crime must be prosecuted without delay and the victims of human trafficking must be protected in all circumstances.
The training course, which was led by two Lithuanian experts, comprised presentations, interactive group discussions and a case simulation, followed by a debriefing.
