DUSHANBE, January 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Municipal redevelopment plans for 18 cities and district centers are supposed to be worked out in Tajikistan within the next few years, the Architecture and Construction Agency head Abduvali Komilov announced at a press conference in Dushanbe today.

According to him, the municipal redevelopment plans for Kulob and Vahdat were worked out last year and the municipal redevelopment plan of Khujand is expected to be completed in the coming days.

On the municipal redevelopment plan of Dushanbe, Komilov noted that it was worked out in 2006.  “However, some shortcomings were revealed and specialists are currently reviewing it,” the director said.

He added that Tajikistan was currently experiencing shortage of skilled specialists for working out such documents.  Therefore, the services of specialists from other countries, primarily Russia, have been enlisted to work out the municipal redevelopment plans of the main cities of the country.  “Thus, Russian specialists are currently participating in reviewing Dushanbe’s municipal redevelopment plan,” Komilov said.
