DUSHANBE, January 28, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom were discussed at a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with new British Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Mr. Trevor Moore, in Dushanbe on January 28, according to presidential press service.

In the course of the talks, Rahmon noted that Tajikistan attached significance to further expansion of bilateral cooperation with the Great Britain in all fields.  The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism, extremism and illicit drug trafficking.

Expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom in sectors like hydropower engineering, processing of natural resources and farm produce, as well as tourism was a major topic of the talks.

Rahmon and Moore also discussed the present situation in Afghanistan.  British diplomat noted that proposals of Tajikistan and its leader on ways to solve the Afghan problem were important for international community, the press service said.
