DUSHANBE, January 28, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) has ratified an agreement between Tajikistan and Pakistan on the mutual protection of investment.

A regular sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the third convocation, presided over by its head, Saydullo Khairulloyev, was held on January 28.

Speaking to reporter after ratification of the document, head of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) Farrukh Hamraliyev said that Pakistani entrepreneurs were interested in investing in different sectors of Tajikistan’s economy, including processing of leather, wool and other agricultural goods.  He expressed confidence that the agreement would create favorable conditions for their activities in the country.

“Besides, many Pakistani banks are interested in the Tajik banking sector, and we hope ratification of the agreement will pave the way for their activities in Tajikistan,” Hamraliyev said.
