always strains the situation.  Nobody has summoned me anywhere.  However, I think it will happen in the near future,” said Dostiyev.

In the report released today, Kommersant noted that official Moscow had interpreted Tajik note not as invitation to dialogue but as harsh and unfounded statement.

According to

Kommersant

, Tajik Ambassador to Tajikistan Abdulmajid Dostiyev was allegedly summoned to Russian MFA Tuesday evening.  The newspaper referring to a source at the Tajik Embassy in Moscow noted that the conversation was not pleasant.  They, in particular, noted that comments on statements by the first persons of foreign states go beyond the scope of the diplomatic ethics.  Moreover, President Medvedev’s statement was not aimed against third country, the newspaper cited Russian MFA as saying.

We will recall that on January 26, Tajik MFA handed a note to Russia”s official representative in Dushanbe expressing concern about Russian President Dmitry Medvedev”s comments on the construction of hydropower stations in the region.

As it had been reported earlier, during a visit to Uzbekistan last week, Medvedev told reporters in Tashkent on January 23 that all plans on the construction of new hydropower stations should be approved by all the Central Asian countries.  All the interested sides should discuss and solve the water problem jointly, he said, adding that if there is no a common agreement of all sides, Russia will refrain from participating in such projects.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service on January 26 reported that Tajik MFA spokesman Davlat Nazriyev has told RFE/RL’s Tajik Service that the ministry”s note says Medvedev”s statement contradicts Tajik-Russian agreements, including one on Russia”s involvement in the construction of the Roghun power station on the Vakhsh River.
