DUSHANBE, January 30, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Thursday January 29, President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
According to presidential press service, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran. Rahmon and Ahmadinejad, in particular, discussed expansion of cooperation in sectors like hydropower engineering and transportation. The sides expressed hope for speedy implementation of a number of joint projects in these sectors.
The presidents also discussed cooperation in the spheres of defense and security as well as the present situation in the region.
President Rahmon confirmed his participation at the upcoming meeting of heads of state of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
For his part, President Ahamdinejad noted that his county was ready to assist Tajikistan with fuel and other necessary means in the winter period.
