DUSHANBE, February 9, 2009, Asia-Plus – The exchange rate of the US dollar (USD) against the somoni (TJS) set by Dushanbe’s currency exchange offices today averages 1:3.74 for purchasing and 1:3.78 for selling, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT). 

The source at Tajik central bank noted that the USD exchange rate has shown a downward tendency due to currency intervention made by the NBT at the inter-bank currency market.

In the meantime, the exchange rate set by Orienbonk for its currency exchange offices today is 1:3.68 for purchasing and 1:3.70 for selling, Tojik Sodirot Bonk (TSB ) – 3.78 for purchasing and 3.80 for selling, Agroinvestbonk – 1:3.75 for purchasing and 1:3.77 and for selling, and Bonki Rughdi Tojikiston (Tajikistan Development Bank or TDB) – 1:3.72 and 1:3.90 respectively.   

As it had been reported earlier, a number of currency exchange offices in Dushanbe on February 7 set the following rates for USD: 3.60 somoni for purchasing and 3.70 somoni for selling.  However, major part of the currency exchanges offices in the city was closed.

As of February 7, an official exchange rate of the dollar against the somoni set by the NBT was 1:3.7275.
