Kyrgyz power distributing companies lost at least 2.9 billion kWh of electricity in 2008, which is about 31.6 percent (18 percent – technical loss, 13.6 percent – commercial), the Kyrgyz government reported.

The Prime Minister Igor Chudinov called all responsible officials to take urgent measures to reduce losses. In 2009 electricity losses should be cut down to 25 percent, while receivables for heating, electricity and gas – down to 15 percent.
