DUSHANBE, March 14, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Training center on providing emergency medical aid was established at the Dushanbe emergency hospital this week.

According to press service of the Ministry of Health (MoH), the center dedicated to promote development of emergency medical service in the country was established under a cooperation agreement signed between a MoH and medical Teams International in Dushanbe in December 2007.

The center establishment project included renovation of building of the Dushanbe emergency hospital and purchase of US$5,480 work of equipment for the center.

In Tajikistan, Medical Team International functions due to donations from the US private funds, the source said.

Medical Teams International (formerly Northwest Medical Teams) is non-profit humanitarian aid and development organization.   As of 2007, Medical Teams International has deployed more than 1,500 volunteer teams and shipped more than $1 billion in antibiotics, surgical kits and lifesaving medicines to care for 35 million people in 70 countries.

The mission of Medical Teams International is to demonstrate the love of Christ to people affected by disaster, conflict and poverty around the world.  They provide humanitarian aid to people in need regardless of a person’s religious background, affiliation or experience.  Aid recipients are not asked to participate in faith-based activities in order to receive medical care or supplies. Volunteers of various faiths are welcome as long as they can support the mission of Medical Teams International.
