DUSHANBE, March 16, 2009, Asia-Plus  — An official ceremony of presentation of two free economic zones (FEZ) – “Sughd” and “Panj” – will be held in Dushanbe on March 17, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).

The source at a MoEDT said that the purpose of the presentation ceremony was to familiarize local entrepreneurs and international organizations active in the country with specificities of functioning of the Sughd and Panj FEZs.  Senior representatives from relevant ministries and departments as well as international organizations and entrepreneurs will attend the presentation ceremony.

We will recall that Tajikistan adopted the law on free economic zones in May 2004.  In October 2008, the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) endorsed regulations on establishment of the free economic zones (FEZ) in Tajikistan – FEZ Sughd in the territory of the city of Khujand, Sughd province and FEZ Panj in the territory of Khatlon’s Qumsangir district.

President Emomali Rahmon appointed heads of the free economic zones of Sughd and Panj at a December 29 meeting that reviewed the results of last year’s work and discussed tasks for the foreseeable future.  By government’s resolutions Anvar Yoqubov was appointed as head of administration of the FEZ “Sughd” in northern Tajikistan and Fayzullo Rasoulov was appointed to head administration of the FEZ “Panj” in the Khatlon province.
