DUSHANBE, March 20, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has purchased 100 Chinese- and Russian-made bicycles that will be distributed to the ministry officials, the Deputy Transport and Communications Minister, Beg Zuhurov, said in an interview with Asia-Plus

“We intend to change our service cars for bicycles beginning on April 1,” said the deputy minister, “This initiative is connected with the global financial crisis.  This willows us to reduce travel expenses.”

According to him, the bikes have already been distributed to directorate and department heads within open joint-stock company (OJSC) Tojik Telecom (Tajikistan’s fixed-line telecommunications network) and Glavpochtampt (central post office) and “people have understood us.”
