DUSHANBE, March 27, 2009, Asia-Plus  — An international song contest, “Five Stars: Intervision,” will be held at the Kokhi Borbad Complex in Dushanbe from August 27-30 this year, the first deputy head of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, Abdurahmon Abdumannonov, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, an agreement on this subject was reached during a visit of the working group, comprising representatives from the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation, Krasny Kvadrat Company and Russia’s TV Channel One, to Tajikistan this week.  The delegation was in Dushanbe from March 23 to March 27.

“We discussed practically all technical issues and the next meeting to discuss insignificant nuances is expected to be held in Moscow or Dushanbe in two weeks,” Abdumannonov said.

Decoration of the Kokhi Borbad stage will be changed and Russian specialists will be engaged in that, the source at the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting said.

We will recall that a 19-year-old Tajik singer Tahmina Niyozova was awarded a grand prize of the “Five Stars: Intervision” contest that was held in Sochi, Russia on August 28-30.

It was the fourth “Five Stars: Intervision” organized by Russia’s TV Channel One and last year, the contest”s format was changed – starting from 2008 this song contest is open not only for Russian contestants but also for participants from other CIS states.

In 2008, representatives of eleven countries, including Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine participated in the contest.  Each country sent one delegate and the winner of the competition was announced via short SMS voting.

Based on the results of the SMS voting, the jury that consisted of the representatives of participating countries and famous figures in the sphere of art awarded the grand prize to Tahmina Niyozova.  Since Tajikistan’s contestant won this year’s competition, the next contest is held in Tajikistan in 2009.
