DUSHANBE, March 30, Asia-Plus — The main border directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) has reported that their servicemen seized a large amount of cannabis at the Tajik-Afghan border in Gorno Badakhshan on March 27.
The source at the border main directorate told Asia-Plus on Saturday that their servicemen on routine patrol spotted and detained four men who were illegally crossing the border river in the area of the “Ishkashim” frontier post late Friday.
The detainee proved to be Tajik nationals aged 20 to 29 and two sacks containing 43 kilograms of cannabis were confiscated from them.
Criminal investigation have been instituted against them and an investigation is under way to identify the owner of the drugs and their intended destination in Tajikistan, the source said.
Over the first two months of this year, the law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan have intercepted more than 800 kilogram of drugs.
