KHUJAND, April 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Construction of a new building for a municipal homeless shelter has begun in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Lola Ashourova, chairperson of the Sughd Society of Disable People, said the old building of the shelter was in a very poor state and might collapse at any moment.

“The new homeless shelter will be more spacious and it will have residential premises alone with an overall space of 210 square meters,” said Ashourova, “The shelter will also have separate kitchen, dining hall, bathroom, toilet and first-aid center.”

The shelter is currently house for 20 people and the new homeless shelter is expected to be finished by Tajikistan’s Independence, which is marked on September 9.
