KULOB, April 11, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first three months of this year, technical power losses in electrical power systems of eight districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region have been estimated at 15.9 percent , director of the Kulob power-distributor enterprise Mirzo Ismoilov announced at a press conference in Kulob on April 10.

According to him, technical losses in the power transmission line Lolazor-Khatlon, built by Chinese specialists, have been reduced to 3-3.5 percent.  The remaining ageing power transmission lines in the region that had been constructed 40 years ago are up to 150 kilometers in length from one substation to another one instead of the required 10-15 kilometers.

Ismoilov noted that the low rate of collection of funds from electricity consumers also evoked concern.  “The Kulob region electricity debts currently amount to more than 10 million somoni and enterprises of the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources operating in the region account for some 60 percent of the overall debt volume,” he said.

In the meantime, residential customers in eight districts of the Kulob region except Kulob and Danghara now have electrical power 10 hours per day – five hours of electricity in the morning and five hours in the evening.
