KHOROG, April 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — In the first quarter of this year, branches of banks in Gorno Badakhshan have provided loans for a total amount of more than 8.3 million somoni, which is 6.453 million somoni fewer than in the same period of 2008, the deputy GBAAO governor, Aziz Giyoyev, said in an interview with Asia-plus.

Over the report period, the branches have provided loans from the own resources,” said the deputy governor, “If credit resources come from the banks in the second quarter, the volume of loans is expected to double.”  According to him, they have already discussed with Amomantbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) the provision of long-term loans for development of poultry and construction of greenhouses in the region.

We will recall that in 2008, branches of banks in Gorno Badakhshan provided more than 78.4 million somoni in loans, which was 17 million somoni more than in 2007.

In the meantime, the population’s deposits in bank branches in Gorno Badakhshan increased more than 7.8 million somoni in three months to march 31, 2009, reaching some 25 million somoni.
