DUSHANBE, April 15, 2009, Asia-Plus — As guarantor of constitutional rights of Tajik nationals, President Rahmon has promised to create all necessary conditions to ensure holding of transparent and fair parliamentary elections in the country in 2010.

He remarked this during an annual address to a joint meeting of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) and the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) parliament on April 15.

Speaking at the meeting, the president called on all political forces in the country to act within the framework of the Constitution and actively participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.  He also called on them not to come under influence of foreign patrons and sponsors.

At this stage of development of Tajik society, political parties and movements should put pubic interests higher than their own ones, Rahmon noted.
