DUSHANBE, April 18, Asia-Plus  — The next round of negotiations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on delimitation and demarcation of the common border is expected to take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from April 28-30, the First Deputy Foreign Minister, Abdullo Yuldoshev, remake data news conference in Dushanbe on April 17.

According to him, four unmatched areas have remained on Tajikistan’s common border with Uzbekistan, including the Farhod dam in Sughd’s Nov district, Tajik exclave in the Pap district of Uzbekistan’s Nanamangan region, and several areas in Sughd’s Konibodom district.  “Negotiations are continuing and they are not unsuccessful,” the deputy minister said.

We will recall that Tajik parliament ratified a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on state border on February 25, 2009 and Uzbek parliament ratified it on March 2, 2009.  Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed the border agreement in April 2002.  Tajikistan’s common border with Uzbekistan is more than 1,106 kilometers in length.  According to Tajik officials, the agreement settled 85 percent of the border land.

On the demarcation of Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan, Yuldoshev said the sides were currently looking for documents that could become legal foundation for demarcating the border.  “We will probably set up a joint Tajik-Kyrgyz commission to find documents in archives,” he said, noting that some 661 kilometers of Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan were already delimitated and all necessary documents were prepared.
