DUSHANBE, April 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Vatican Ambassador to Tajikistan Miguel Maury Buendia, today presented his credentials to President Emomali Rahmon.

According to presidential press service, President Rahmon and Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia discussed issues related to dialogue between religions and cultures.

The sides noted that faith in God and cooperation between different religions should serve the cause of the fight against terrorism, extremism and illicit drug trafficking as well as providing support to vulnerable sections of the population.         

Tajik leader and apostolic nuncio also considered issues related to the current religious situation in Tajikistan.

During the meeting, it was noted representatives of different religions peacefully coexisted in the country, freely practicing their religious rituals, the press service said, noting that three Catholic churches currently functioned in the country.
