DUSHANBE, April 29, Asia-Plus  — The Mahmadruzi Iskandarov-run Democratic Party (DPT) has instituted four awards for Tajik journalists.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the DPT deputy leader Rahmatullo Valiyev said the awards were named after Tohir Abdujabbor, Asliddin Sohibnazar, Imomnazar Kholiqnazar and Jumaboy Niyozov.  “These awards are dedicated to honor the memory of these four persons that have made considerable contribution to formation and development of democracy in the country,” he said.

According to Valiyev, the Tohir Abdujabbor Award will be given in the “For Protection of National Interests” nomination, the Asliddin Sohibnazar Award will be given in the “For Journalistic Bravery” nomination, the Imomnazar Kholiqnazar Award will be given in the “For Journalism of Modern Time” nomination, and the Jumaboy Niyozov Award will be given in the “For Civil Position” nomination.

“Members of the commission consisting of members of the DPT’s Political Council will determine winners by themselves,” said the DPT deputy head, “In other words, journalists will not have to submit their materials.”

Valiyev noted that the first award ceremony for the winners would be held on May 3.
