DUSHANBE, May 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  — We will be able to mitigate impact of the global financial and economic crisis on Tajikistan’s economy already by the end of this year, Finance Minister Safarali Najmiddinov announced in an interview with Tajik national TV, Channel One, on May 20.

Development of the country’s economy will begin at the beginning of the next year start, the minister said, noting that he means development as compared to this crisis year.

“Over the first four months of the year, economic growth in the country has amounted to 2.9 percent, though we expected it to amount to not more than 2 percent under conditions of the crisis,” said the minister, “This month, we will able to improve economic growth and it will be more tangible in the coming four months.”

According to him, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) currently pays great attention to financing of the real sector of economy, agrarian sector for the purpose of mitigating the crisis effects.  Besides, the government is intensifying work on attracting foreign investments, he added.

Noting that according to the MoF estimates, deficiency of the budget‘s revenue part will amount 200 million U.S. dollars, the minister said that Tajikistan hoped to get failing funds from outside.

“We plan to hold the second meeting with donor organizations active in the country within the next few days to discuss the provision of additional assistance to Tajikistan,” said Najmiddinov, “” We also hope that the Anti-crisis Fund of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) will also support our budget.”
