KULOB, June 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Banks and microlending organizations have provided 11,167,824 somoni in loans to Kulob farming units for this year’s cotton sowing and harvesting campaign so far, Abdukarim Nematov, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

He noted that branches of banks in Kulob practically did not have their own resources because of delays in repayment of last year’s loans.  “Therefore, 10,250,220 somoni of the provided amount are the government credit provided to farmers through banks,” Nematov said.

According to him, 6,526,774 somoni have been provided by Agroinvestbonk’s branches, 2.717 million somoni have been provided by branches of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank), and 1.32 million somoni have been provided by the branch of Tojik Sodirot Bonk (TSB) in Farkhor district.

The branch of Tajprombank (Joint-Stock Commercial Industrial Bank of Reconstruction and Development) has also joined local banks in lending money to cotton farmers.  Tajprombank’s branch has recently provided the first 127,000 somoni in loans to Kulob farming units, Nematov said.

In all, branches of banks in Kulob have received cotton loan applications for a total amount of 28,750,422 somoni so far.
