DUSHANBE, June 11, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first ten days of the anti-drug operation, dubbed Poppy-2009 that was launched in the country on May 15, 814,000 hemp bushes have been discovered and destroyed in the northern Sughd province, according to the main border guard directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).

The hemp bushes have been discovered in Jabborrasulov, Asht,, Spitamen and Isfara districts, Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the main border guard directorate, said.

According to him, criminal proceedings have been instituted on drug-trafficking charges and an investigation is under way.
