KULOB, June 16, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Farmers in Khatlon’s Kulob region have produced 13,000 tons of wheat by June 15, Abdullo Rajabov, a leading specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.

According to him, the grain-harvesting campaign is still progressing only in four of ten districts in the Kulob region – Farkhor, Vose, Hamadoni and Danghara.  “Farming units have reported average wheat yields of more than 2.5 tons per hectares,” Rajabov said.

Farmers in Hamadoni have reported harvests of 3 tons/ha and farming units in Farkhor have reported wheat yields of 2.6 tons per hectare.

Farmers in the Kulob region have planted cereals on 89,000 hectares this year.  Rajabov says, “If such a high productivity is kept, local specialists expect this year’s wheat harvest to the record one over the past fifteen years.”
