DUSHANBE. June 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A roundtable meeting entitled “Female Labor Migration from Tajikistan to Russia: State, Problems and Prospects” will be held in Moscow on June 19.

Initiated by Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF-Tajikistan), the meeting is expected to bring together representatives Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry Migration Service and  Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs, Tajik Embassy in Moscow, as well as Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS) and public associations dealing with problems of female labor migration to discuss issues related to problems facing female labor migrants and development of legal foundation and mechanisms of protection of female migrants from Tajikistan in Russia.

According to the OSI/AF-Tajikistan, the meeting participants will also consider development of a concerted strategy of civilized and mutually beneficial migration progress and strengthening of intersectroal and interstate cooperation between government bodies and public associations of the two countries in the field of migration.

Tajik delegation is also scheduled to meet with Tajik female labor migrants working in markets and commercial centers to get acquainted with conditions of their work and life as well as problems facing them in order to develop a joint strategy of improvement of the female labor migration as a whole.
