DUSHANBE, June 19, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The 42nd session of the CIS Economic Council is taking place in the Moldavian capital Chisinau today.

According to press release issued by the CIS Executive Committee, partaking in the session are the delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine consisting of deputy heads of government, economy ministers and their deputies.

Moldova’s First Vice-Premier also Minister of Economic and Trade is presiding over the session, which is considering some 14 issues.

CIS cooperation in developing the international transport corridors, elaborating the rules to determine the country of origin of goods within the CIS, the use of electricity transmission lines and cooperation between the national power systems are among major topics of the session.

The CIS Economic Council is also supposed to consider a number of issues related to current activities of the CIS.

The CIS Economic Council has an objective right to coordinate the CIS cooperation in the social and economic area and secure the implementation of the agreements on setting up free economic zones within the CIS areas.
