DUSHANBE, June 26, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Anti-narcotics actions were held in five summer camps in the Varzob district yesterday.

The actions that involved more than 250 children were dedicated to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking that is marked today.

According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press service, the main objective of these events was in not leaving children alone with their problems during summer holidays and drawing their attention away from what street offers.

Various sports activities and psychological trainings giving children an opportunity to realize their creative abilities have been organized for children.

Today, similar events are being held in all regions of the country, the press service said.

By resolution 42/112 on December 7 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.  This resolution recommended further action with regard to the report and conclusions of the 1987 International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
