DUSHANBE, June 29, Asia-Plus  — On June 26, the Drug Control Agency (DCA) and the Interior Ministry department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) burned  635 kilograms of narcotics at the Tajiktetkstilmash plant in Dushanbe, according to the DCA press service.

A totaled included 28 kilograms of heroin and the remainder was raw opium and cannabis drugs.  The drugs were confiscated by Tajik law enforcement authorities in the course of 2008-2009.

Representatives from courts, prosecutor’s offices and media attended the burning that was timed to coincide with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking that is marked on June 26.

We will recall that by resolution 42/112 on December 7 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.  This resolution recommended further action with regard to the report and conclusions of the 1987 International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
