DUSHANBE, September 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Delegation of the European Commission to Tajikistan within the framework of the EU funded project “Support to Civil Service Reform and Good Governance in Tajikistan” handed over office equipment for EUR 93 000 to the Civil Service Department under the President of Tajikistan on September 3, according to press release issued by the European Commission Delegation.

The equipment supplied includes computers, printers, stabilizers, power supply systems, software and other components.

The reform of the Public Administration is a distinct priority in the National Development Strategy 2006-2015 and Poverty Reduction Strategy 2007-2009.

The European Union funded project supports the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in further advancing with the civil service reform. . The new equipment will be distributed among all regional units of the Civil Service Department, and will serve to improve the implementation of daily tasks in civil service.

It needs to be noted that since 2005 the European Union is involved in the process of facilitation of civil service reform through different projects. Together with capacity building of the Civil Service Department and the Institute of Improving the Qualification of Civil Servant (IIQCS), the EU funded projects have supported the development and implementation of the Civil Service Reform Concept Note.

The projects supported the development of a new Law on Civil Service and bylaws, capacity building of civil servants, as well as supporting the development of a mechanism to monitor the civil service reform implementation progress.

The purpose of project “Support to Civil Service Reform and Good Governance in the Republic of Tajikistan” is to support the effective, reliable, transparent, accountable, ethic and professional civil service in Tajikistan by implementing the civil service reform, introduction of public consultations and improving the integrity.
