DUSHANBE, September 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ghulomjon Bobozoda told a meeting of the Coordination Council of Donors and the Government of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on September 17 that economic growth remains intact in Tajikistan despite the economic crisis and difficulties having arisen in the country’s economy this year.

According to him, gross domestic product has risen 1.8 percent in January-August this year.  “Economic growth has been provided due to dynamically developing agrarian sector (11.6 percent rise), increase in volumes in the service sphere and transport sector, where growth rates  in cargo shipments and passenger carriages have amounted to 7.5 and 6.5 percent respectively,” said the minister, “Besides, customer demand has led to a 10 percent increase in retail turnover.”

He added that volumes of payments for services rendered to the population had increased by 3.2 percent.

According to him, inflation has been growing moderately since the beginning of the year and inflation for January-August 2009 stood at 4 percent, which is 7.9 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.
