KHUJAND, September 28, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Khujand-based cellular operator, Indigo-Somoncom, has summed up the results of charitable action that was conducted in the Sughd province during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, from August 21 to September 21.

The action was aimed to collect funds for vulnerable people in the province.  “In all, more than 29,000 subscribers to Indigo-Somoncom participated in the action and contribution of the company itself was more than 15,000 somoni,” the source at Indigo-Somoncom said.

“During the first ten days, 28,000 somoni were distributed to 440 vulnerable people,” said the source.  “During the second ten days, 21,500 somoni were collected and distributed to 442 vulnerable people and during the last ten days, 4,900 somoni were distributed to 49 vulnerable people.”

According to him, among beneficiaries were 45 disabled people and pupils from orphanages in Asht, Isfara, Istaravshan and Kuhistoni Mastchoh districts.

Besides, the public commission has decided to provide 6,000 somoni for purchase of energy-saving light bulbs for poor families in Taboshar, Konibodom, Ghonchi, Ayni and Zafarobod, the source said.

In all, 54,400 somoni have been collected for conducting this charitable action.
