DUSHANBE, September 29, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A roundtable meeting formally titled “Economic Crisis and Problems of Labor Migration” was held in Moscow on September 28.

Organized by the Moscow House of Nationalities and the Union of Tajiks in Russia, the meeting brought together representatives from the Moscow government and Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS), members of the Council of Federation (Russia’s upper chamber of parliament) and State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament), representatives of Tajik Interior Ministry’s representative office in Moscow, as well as experts and employers to discuss ways to tackle problems facing labor migrants and improvement of interaction between governmental, public and commercial organizations in solving these problems, according to information posted on the website of the Union of Tajiks In Russia.

The meeting participants also discussed the possibility of creating multifunctional migration centers.  Such centers have already been tested in two regions of Russia by local authorities in cooperation with Union’s branches and commercial organizations.

They also considered issues related to a role of state and society in regulating labor migration processes under conditions of the economic crisis, forming deliberate migration as a deterrent to illegal migration, economic crisis and its impact on migration processes within the CIS area, and innovations in the field of regulation of migration flows.
