DUSHANBE, September 30, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The autumn conscription campaign will be launched in Tajikistan tomorrow, October 1.

According to the Ministry of Defense (MoD), district, city and regional commission have been set up in the country for implementation of president’s decree on the autumn conscription campaign.

“The republican commission for the autumn conscription campaign will be headed by a representative from the defense and public order department within President’s Executive Office and the chief of the MoD mobilization-organizational department, Major-General Akbar Qayumov, will be the deputy head of the republican commission,” the source said.

We will recall that President Rahmon signed a decree on drafting young Tajiks into the country’s armed forces from October through November 2009 on September 10.  The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve. The same decree provides for the retirement from active duty of soldiers and sergeants whose service under conscription is over.
