DUSHANBE, October 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The head of Tajikistan’s Main Geology Directorate (Tajik Geology) Azim Ibrohim told journalists in Dushanbe on October 6 that a number of foreign companies have shown interest in participation in exploration and development of the uranium deposits in Tajikistan.

According to him, among them are enterprises of the countries engaged in development and sale of these radioactive raw materials.  “These companies have not yet been granted licenses for exploration and development of the uranium deposits in Tajikistan, though many of them have applied for them repeatedly that is evidence of the firmness of their intentions,” Ibrohim said.

The Tajik Geology head further added that it could not be ruled out that the services of foreign investors would be enlisted in the future for development of the uranium deposits in the country for the purpose of creating local nuclear power engineering.

We will recall that Tajikistan last year adopted the law on mineral resources that permits foreign companies to participate in exploration and development of uranium deposits in the country.
