DUSHANBE, October 9, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The number of low-quality energy-saving light bulbs, also known as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), is increasing at Tajikistan’s markets and Tojikstandart (agency for standardization, metrology, certification and trade inspection) is taking measures to prevent that, the Tojikstandart director Davlatali Hotamov told reporters in Dushanbe on October 9.

According him, many energy-saving light bulbs that are currently realized at local markets do not meet standards and were not certified by Tojikstandart.

“The majority of CFLs have been delivered to the country illegally and most of them do not have quality certificates,” said Hotamov.  “Our specialists are currently inspecting markets and shops across the country to check CFLs for compliance with standards.  All the low- quality bulbs will be withdrawn from realization.”

He added that two laboratories for checking delivered CFLs had been set up in Dushanbe and Khujand and the third one would be set up in Qurghon Teppa by the end of this year.
