DUSHANBE, October 10, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Commission for Child’s Rights under the Government of Tajikistan presented a summary report on October 9.
Work of the city and districts departments for child’s rights on monitoring families, revealing children that have lost parental guardianships and need state protection was presented at the meeting that brought together deputy chairmen of cities and districts of the country as well as representatives from local offices of the UNICEF, the Swiss agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), etc.
Speaking at the meeting, the deputy chairperson of the Commission for Child’s Rights also the chairperson of the department for youth, sports and tourism affairs at President’s Executive Office, Ms. Dilorom Mirsaidova pointed to the necessity of coordination of actions local authorities, education and health departments and committees for family and women’s affairs in the provinces to ensure proper work of local departments for child’s rights providing medical-social, psychological-pedagogical and other social services to families and children.
“Government’s policy regarding this issue is aimed at returning children to their biological families,” Mirsaidova said.
The meeting considered a draft national plan of actions for reforming juvenile justice designed for 2010-2015. The main objective of this plan is to bring the country’s law and policy regarding juvenile justice into compliance with international standards and create system that would cover children who are in conflict with the law.
The meeting participants also discussed issues related to creation of a separate system of legal procedure for minors in a form of family courts.
