DUSHANBE, October 21, 2009 Asia-Plus  — Over the first nine months of this year, power plants subordinate to Barqi Tojik power holding have generated a total of 10.085 billion kWh of electricity, Safarali Sadulloyev, the deputy director of Barqi Tojik, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 20.

Besides, the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) that has been put into operation this year has generated 1.2564 billion kWh of electric power over the report period, he said.

“The overall volume of electricity generated by Barqi Tojik’s power plants and the Sangtuda-1 HPP is 519 million kWh more compared to indictors of January-September 2008,” Sadulloyev stressed.

According to him, The Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) has generated 125 million kWh of electricity over the same nine-month period, which is 5 percent more than in the same period of last year.

The Barqi Tojik official added that Barqi Tojik had purchased more than 1.235 billion kWh of electricity from the Sangtuda-1 HPP for Tajikistan’s needs.  “Besides, we have also imported more than 1 billion kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan over the report period,” said Sadulloyev, “In January-September 2009, Tajikistan has exported more than 1.171 billion kWh of electricity to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.”

On the power losses, he said that compared to last year, the power losses have decreased by 0.3 percent and amounted to 10.4 percent for January-September this year.

“In connection with use of energy-saving light bulbs, electricity consumptions have decreased by 4.4 million KWh compared to last year,” Sadulloyev said, adding that the nationwide shift to the energy-saving light bulbs would allow saving some 810 megawatt-hour of electricity per year, which is equal to capacity of a large hydropower plant.
