DUSHANBE, October 30, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s open joint-stock company (OJSC) Roghun-HPP and Ukraine’s OJSC Turboatom have singed an agreement on a long-term cooperation, according to presidential press service.
On Thursday October 29, Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov and the delegation of Ukraine’s Kharkov region visited the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and the site for construction of the Roghun HPP, where they got acquainted with the pace of implementation of the Roghun hydroelectricity project.
A ceremony of signing of an agreement between Tajikistan’s OJSC Roghun-HPP and Ukraine’s OJSC Turboatom on a long-term cooperation was held at the Roghun site, the press service said.
Tajikistan founded OJSC Roghun-HPP with an authorized capital of 116 million somoni for completing the construction of the Roghun station in April 2008 after it formally revoked a contract with Russia”s RusAl aluminum company for the construction of the Roghun HPP in August 2007. The Tajik government accused the Russian company of failing to fulfill the contract signed in 2004. Tajik authorities and RusAl became bogged down in the hydroelectric plant”s dam model and height, crucial factors in its capacity.
The 3,600 MWt Roghun hydroelectric plant is to generate 13 billion kWh of electricity per year. The plant”s completion would substantially increase sales of electricity to neighboring countries.
OJSC Turboatom specializes in the production of turbines for thermoelectric and nuclear power stations, hydraulic turbines for hydroelectric power stations and hydro-accumulator stations, gas turbines for thermoelectric power stations, and steam-and-gas equipment as well as other energy equipment. A 75.22% stake in the enterprise belongs to the state and is managed by the State Property Fund.
As it had been reported earlier, Barqi Tojik power holding and Turboatom signed a contract in Dushanbe on October 28 on production of equipment for the Norak HPP. Under the agreement, Turboatom will produce and supply to Tajikistan spare parts for revolving valves of all units of the station. A total cost of the equipment is 2 million U.S. dollars and they are scheduled to be manufactured in 12 months.
